JOB SUMMARY:

The TMG R&D Designers are responsible and accountable for creating new products that meet TMGs highest quality standards while fitting a particular brands DNA in a fast-paced timeline with the overall goal of first to market. Designers are responsible for overseeing the design project from kick-off to completion, using solid organizational skills, and utilizing basic CAD modeling capabilities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand project demands upon kick-off, e.g., long lead time potentials

  • Manage timelines for current projects goals from inception to RTM

  • Develop product concepts in CAD with the ability to render initial design concepts

  • Create all engineering documentation to approved standards

  • Communicate technical requirements and process needs to vendors

  • QC and approve first articles using required equipment, e.g., CMM

  • Develop products to meet new product launch deadlines

  • Provide technical guidance and advice to other team members when needed

  • Maintain existing applications, and continued product requirements

 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial/Product Design

  • FSAE/BSAE program completion

  • 3 years of related work experience in Design, Engineering or R&D

  • 5 years of Solidworks experience

  • Automotive product development/knowledge base, with understanding of common industry standards, ASME, ANSI, and GD&T

  • Have an understanding for in-house and outsourced manufacturing techniques

  • Understand and apply Engineering Guidelines, clearances, etc.

  • Proficiency in hardware and assemblies required specific to automotive applications

  • Basic knowledge of materials/hardware and appropriate applications

  • Understanding of common ride control attributes and suspension dynamics

  • Detail oriented team player and highly self-motivated

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
